400-Level Student Arrested After Pupil Loses Eye in Ogun State Incident
A 400-level student of Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijebu Ode, identified as Adéọlá Adeyemo, has been arrested for allegedly causing an injury that led to the removal of the right eye of an 11-year-old pupil, Alao Idera, of Owiwi Nursery and Primary School, Obada Oko, Ogun State.
The incident reportedly occurred around 3 p.m. during a teaching practice session at the school. According to the Ogun State Police Command spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, the injury happened when Adeyemo, who was holding a cane in preparation for an end-of-year party, accidentally injured the pupil.
Odutola explained that the pupil rushed toward Adeyemo, causing the cane to pierce her eye. The injured child was immediately taken to the Federal Medical Centre in Idi-Aba, Abeokuta, where the eye was surgically removed.
“The teacher did not flog the pupil, nor was there any wrongdoing on the part of the student. It was an unfortunate accident,” Odutola clarified.
Following the incident, Adeyemo was arrested and is currently being interrogated by the police. Investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
