WAEC To Review FG U-Turn Decision on School Resumption

The West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) has said it would be reviewing the decision of the Nigeria Government to reverse its earlier decision to reopen schools.

The Examination body, admitted that the government has the right to take decision that affects its student as it concerns sitting for exams at this period of a pandemic, but promise to make its position on the matter known soon.

In a press interview with news men, WAEC’s Head of Nigeria’s office, (HNO), Patrick Areghan, said that the Nigeria Government has the right to take positions on the issue, while assuring that they are ready to work hand in hand with the government.

Areghan also added that the public would be updated when WAEC’s final decisions are taken. Recall that the Federal Government through the Minister of State for Education, during the Presidential Tax Force briefing on COVID-19  on Monday, had announced that students in Certification/ Exit classes would be allowed to resume in order for them to prepare for their exams.

But in a twist of event, the Government rescinded on that decision, after a virtual Federal Executive Council meeting on Wednesday, 8th of July, when the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, said secondary schools under the control of the federal government will not be resuming for WAEC exams as a result of the deadly COVID-19 Pandemic.
