ASUU Gives FG 21day Strike Notice

ASUU Gives FG 21-day Strike Notice over Alleged Refusal to Implement Agreements

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has notified the federal government of its plan to begin a nationwide strike in 21 days. The union sent this notice through a letter to the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment and the Ministry of Education in Abuja.

This comes after ASUU held a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting at the University of Ibadan. A source from ASUU confirmed the notice and explained that it is a formal strike warning, not an ultimatum.

ASUU’s decision follows the government’s failure to fulfill agreements made with the union, including the non-implementation of the 2009 renegotiated agreements and unpaid academic allowances. The union also highlighted that revitalization funds for universities have not been fully released.

Despite a meeting on June 26 between the Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, and ASUU, the union claims that no progress has been made on their demands.
