FG Postpones Crucial Meeting with ASUU Amid Strike Threats

The scheduled meeting between the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) planned for today has been postponed. ASUU President, Emmanuel Osodeke, confirmed the delay, noting that the meeting, which was intended to avert another nationwide strike, will no longer take place as initially announced by the Minister of Education last Friday.

Although no official reason was provided for the postponement, the meeting is now rescheduled for Wednesday, August 28.

Last week, ASUU threatened to embark on a nationwide strike, citing the Federal Government’s failure to honor the 2009 renegotiated agreement. This decision was part of the resolutions reached during the union’s national executive council meeting at the University of Ibadan.

ASUU’s demands include improved welfare, increased funding for universities, and a halt to the proliferation of universities across the country.
