The Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, has revealed that a new school curriculum will be implemented starting October 2024. He made this announcement after a Federal Executive Council meeting presided over by President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa.

The updated curriculum, targeting both primary and secondary schools, is designed to address concerns about the values and behavior of young Nigerians. Mamman emphasized the importance of instilling social and civic values alongside education.

“There is widespread concern about the behavior of our youth and a decline in national values, despite the compulsory civic education in secondary schools,” he said. “This new curriculum will incorporate knowledge, skills, and values, with a strong focus on skills, so that students can better engage with the economy after graduation.”

Additionally, Mamman announced that the council had approved the construction of a new senate building for the University of Ibadan. The university, established in 1948, will receive its first new Senate building to accommodate administrative offices.

He also confirmed approval for the costs associated with conducting examinations by the National Examinations Council (NECO), which recently released results for millions of students across Nigeria.
