Governor Ortom Plans to Establish BSU College of Engineering

The Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom has announced that plans are underway to establish a College of Engineering at Benue State University, Makurdi.

The Governor said this on Thursday, at the Benue Peoples House, Makurdi, when he received a report of the State Steering Committee on the Establishment of Centre for Infectious and Tropical Diseases, College of Health Sciences, Benue State University.

Ortom also informed that a committee would be constituted to fast-track the process of the establishment of the College of Engineering at the institution.

In the light of the development, the Governor directed the Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr. Emmanuel Ikwulono to present a memo to the State Executive Council on findings and recommendations of the report for immediate action.

He, however, said that the Engineering College is key to technology development even as he stressed that Benue, known as the Food Basket of the Nation, should also be the hub of education.

Ortom applauded the committee for the timely completion and presentation of the report in spite of the challenges posed by the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Dr. Ikwulono, who is the Commissioner for Health and Human Services, during the presentation, revealed that when established, the center would be of immense value to the health sector of the state.

Recall that Governor Ortom recently announced the appointment of Prof. Iorapa Tor as the Vice-Chancellor of the Benue State University, Makurdi.
