JAMB Denies Responsibility for HND Graduates’ NYSC Eligibility Issues

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has refuted claims that it is responsible for the inability of some Higher National Diploma (HND) graduates to participate in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). JAMB clarified that its mandate does not cover HND admissions, and thus, it cannot be held accountable for the issue.
The board responded after some prospective NYSC candidates accused JAMB of jeopardizing their chances of joining the mandatory one-year service program. JAMB’s spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, emphasized that the board’s responsibilities are limited to determining matriculation requirements and conducting exams for undergraduate admissions, National Diploma (ND), and Nigerian Certificate in Education (NCE) courses. JAMB has no authority over the HND admission process.
The board noted that some students had been admitted to ND programs without JAMB’s knowledge, which it later endorsed. However, their subsequent admission to HND programs falls outside JAMB’s jurisdiction. The board urged the public to disregard the accusations and warned that some of the candidates’ actions might cross into criminality, which JAMB will address appropriately.
