The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has mandated that all candidates applying to study programs in Nigerian tertiary institutions must use their National Identification Number (NIN) for registration. JAMB Registrar, Professor Is-haq Oloyede, announced this in a statement on Monday in Abuja, explaining that this measure aims to prevent fraudulent activities and ensure the integrity of candidates’ records.
Professor Oloyede emphasized that all prospective candidates, including those applying to the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Distance Learning, Part-time, and Sandwich programs, must use their NIN to create a profile code before registering with JAMB.
The statement, released by JAMB spokesperson Dr. Fabian Benjamin, reads: “This advisory is issued to all concerned institutions and candidates intending to study under the non-regular mode in Nigerian tertiary institutions.
“As part of measures to prevent fraudulent activities and in compliance with its enabling act, JAMB has mandated that all applicants for any program of study in Nigerian tertiary institutions, whether regular or non-regular, must provide their NIN during registration.
“Consequently, all prospective candidates in the non-regular category (NOUN, Distance Learning, Part-time, and Sandwich programs) must create a profile code by sending their NIN through their unique phone number to either of the Board’s sort codes (55019 or 66019).”
After creating the profile, candidates will proceed to a Computer-Based Test (CBT) center for registration. Once registered, the candidate’s details will appear on the Central Admission Processing System (CAPS) of their chosen institution under non-regular admission.
