JAMB Reaffirms Commitment to Equal Education Access for Persons with Disabilities, Announces Regional Conference

The Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Professor Is-haq Oloyede, has reaffirmed the Board’s dedication to promoting equal access to higher education, particularly for persons with disabilities (PWDs). Speaking in Abuja, Oloyede highlighted the work of the JAMB Equal Opportunity Group (JEOG) and the upcoming First Africa Regional Conference on Equal Opportunity of Access to Higher Education (ARCEAHED), set for September 17-18, 2024.
Established in 2016, JEOG, chaired by Emeritus Professor Peter Okebukola, ensures PWDs receive support in registering for and taking the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). The conference will bring together experts from across Africa to address challenges and explore solutions for improving higher education access for PWDs.
Oloyede emphasized that inclusive education is a fundamental right and vital to societal growth, highlighting the Board’s initiatives like specialized testing centers, reduced registration fees, and free application documents for eligible PWD candidates. He called on stakeholders to join in promoting equitable access to education for all.
