Lagos State Graduates Over 500 Beneficiaries from Life Skills Empowerment Programme, Boosts Local Economies

The Lagos State Government has graduated over 500 beneficiaries from its Life Skills Economic Empowerment Programme, also known as the Short-Term Skill Acquisition Training. The event celebrated participants from the Sanni Agbesinga Community in Alimosho and the Parafa Alagemo Community in Ikorodu North.
Since the start of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration, more than 15,000 individuals have been trained in various skills, including makeup artistry, catering, soap-making, and event planning. Each beneficiary received essential startup packs to kickstart their entrepreneurial ventures.
Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Mrs. Bolaji Dada, highlighted the programme’s comprehensive approach, which includes entrepreneurial skills, health awareness, and environmental safety. Represented by the Permanent Secretary, Oluyemi Kalesanwo, Dada noted, “This event signifies not just the end of training but the start of new opportunities for all participants.”
The Commissioner praised the dedication of the beneficiaries and encouraged them to use their new skills to uplift their communities and inspire future generations. She also assured ongoing government support, with plans for additional training programmes aimed at empowering women and youth across Lagos.
In her closing remarks, Director of the Women’s Department in WAPA, Olufunke Shyllon, urged participants to view their newly acquired skills as valuable assets and emphasized that the Ministry’s Monitoring and Evaluation Team would ensure the proper use of the empowerment packs.
Local leaders, including the Chairman of the Community Development Association in Ikorodu North, Adeniran Ogunbawo, and the Secretary of the Sanni Agbesinga Community Development Association, Olalekan Erinle, commended the programme, noting its transformative potential in boosting local economies and combating poverty at the grassroots level.
