To mark International Literacy Day 2024, the Lagos Metropolitan Lions Club, in partnership with Lagos Elite Lions Club and Ikeja Lions Club, organized a three-in-one event featuring a tree planting exercise, free medical check-up, and distribution of educational materials to students.

The event, held at Anifowose Primary School in Ikeja, Lagos, highlighted the clubs’ dedication to removing educational barriers for children. Pupils received items such as branded exercise books, bags, cotton socks, teaching materials, and stationery. Additionally, medical check-ups were provided for both teaching and non-teaching staff, and tree planting was conducted to enhance the school’s environment.

Lion Victor Aylor, President of the Lagos Metropolitan Lions Club, explained: “This back-to-school initiative is aimed at supporting pupils with essential writing materials as they start the new academic year. After conducting a needs assessment, we discovered that Anifowose Primary School lacked adequate educational support, with many pupils missing basic stationery. Our goal was to provide these items as a surprise.”

He added that the tree planting would beautify the school grounds, while the medical team ensured the well-being of the staff.
