Lagos Tertiary Students Oppose Planned Nationwide Protests
By AmforGod J. Olisa
Students of tertiary institutions in Lagos State have announced their position on the planned nationwide protests set to begin on August 1.
DAILY POST reports that Nigerians, particularly youths, are preparing to stage mass protests from August 1 to August 10 to highlight the citizens’ struggles and draw the government’s attention to their plight. The organizers have called for protesters to gather at state government houses across the country and the National Assembly complex in Abuja.
However, Mr. Alimi Lekan-Idris, President of the National Association of Lagos State Students (NULASS), stated on Tuesday that the students in Lagos would not participate in the protests.
Speaking at a press conference held at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital College of Medicine, Ikeja, Mr. Alimi urged Nigerian youths to prioritize dialogue over protests.
“It is crucial that we remember the importance of peace and stability and use dialogue to achieve our collective goals,” Alimi said. “Given these significant contributions and progress we have witnessed, we wish to state that we are not in support of any protest against the government of Lagos State.”
