Legacy University Okija marked a significant milestone with the celebration of its 8th matriculation ceremony, welcoming a new cohort of students into its academic fold.
The event, held on the 17th of August at the university’s expansive campus, was not only a moment of pride for the matriculating students and their families but also a testament to the institution’s unwavering commitment to excellence, as it launched two major projects: the Allied and Health Sciences Faculty and a state-of-the-art radio station.
The excitement was visible as over 180 new students from 12 departments officially began their academic journey at Legacy University Okija.
Among them were Emmanuel Somtochukwu Emenike and Alajemba Chinaza Sophia, both from the Department of Mass Communication. Emmanuel expressed his enthusiasm about being part of the university, emphasizing his expectation of academic excellence and good behavior. He noted that the university’s strong stance on good conduct would positively influence his experience and growth.
Chinaza echoed similar sentiments, sharing her joy and happiness at being one of the new students. She affirmed that Legacy University was the best choice for her and other aspiring students, promising to excel academically and uphold the university’s values as a responsible ambassador.
Speaking at the event, Mrs. Chinyere Ibe, the Dean of Student Affairs, reflected on the university’s journey over the past eight years. Having been with the institution for a significant portion of its development, she praised the profound progress made, attributing it to divine grace and the perseverance of the university’s management.
Mrs. Ibe highlighted the university’s reputation for excellence, both within and outside the country, as a result of its unyielding commitment to quality education.
Speaking to our rep, Mrs. Ibe proudly announced one of the profound progress of the university’s mobilization of its students for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in the first batch, a feat that sets Legacy University apart from many other institutions in Nigeria. She explained that the university ensures that students’ results are compiled and made available within three months of graduation, facilitating swift mobilization for the NYSC program.
This efficient process has been a key differentiator for the university, particularly when compared to other institutions with large numbers of graduates still awaiting mobilization.
She praised the university’s scholarship scheme, designed to alleviate the financial burdens on families amid challenging economic conditions, further demonstrating the institution’s commitment to providing quality and accessible education.
The founder and Pro-chancellor of Legacy University Mr Leonard Nkameme, in an exclusive interview, shared insights into the institution’s journey over the past eight years.
He candidly discussed the challenges faced, particularly the financial hurdles, but emphasized that giving up was never an option.
His determination and vision have been instrumental in the university’s growth, and he expressed immense pride in the progress made so far.
When asked about the launch of the new Allied and Health Sciences Faculty and the university’s radio station, the founder described these as crucial developments that align with the institution’s long-term goals. He explained that the need for these facilities was evident and that, despite the daunting nature of the task, the university rose to the occasion and successfully brought these projects to fruition.
The founder assured that Nigerians could expect nothing but the best from the new faculty, which boasts high standards and cutting-edge equipment, reflective of the university’s overall educational excellence.
In his words, “Everything worth doing must be done well, and I don’t believe in doing things haphazardly.” This philosophy has evidently shaped the university’s approach to education and infrastructure development.
Mr Vincent Ezeme, the head of admissions at Legacy University, has been with the institution since its inception. Reflecting on his eight years of service, Mr. Vincent described his experience as one of continuous learning and growth.
He acknowledged that the admissions process is one of the most rigorous aspects of the university’s operations, but noted that adherence to the guidelines set by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and the Central Admission Processing Unit (CAPS) has been key to their success.
Mr. Vincent emphasized that for a student to gain admission to Legacy University, they must meet the minimum requirements set by both JAMB and the university itself. This strict adherence to standards has ensured that the university maintains a high level of academic integrity and attracts students who are committed to their education.
Regarding the newly launched Allied and Health Sciences Faculty, Mr. Vincent highlighted that the expansion was a necessary response to growing demand. The university has made significant investments in state-of-the-art equipment and has recruited qualified lecturers, including those with PhDs, to ensure that the new faculty meets the highest standards.
He expressed confidence that the faculty would attract even more students, particularly those interested in the nursing program.
Mr. Vincent also mentioned the introduction of a part-time program, which will utilize the same resources as the full-time program, offering greater flexibility for students who may need it.
The head of Admissions concluded by congratulating the new students on their matriculation and urged them to take their studies seriously, emphasizing the importance of hard work and commitment to learning.
Legacy University Okija’s 8th matriculation ceremony was not just a celebration of new beginnings for its students but also a showcase of the institution’s relentless pursuit of excellence.
With the launch of the Allied and Health Sciences Faculty and a new radio station,90.7 FM, the university continues to solidify its reputation as a leader in higher education.
As the university grows, it remains committed to providing quality education, supporting its students through scholarships, and maintaining rigorous standards in its admissions process.
