NANS Urges Federal Government to Reverse Petrol Price Hike, Warns of Potential Protests

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has urged the Federal Government to reverse the recent increase in petrol pump prices, stating that the current situation is unbearable for Nigerians. NANS President, Lucky Emonefe, made this appeal in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Abuja.
On Tuesday, NNPC Ltd. approved a price hike for petrol, raising it from N568-N617 per litre to between N855 and N897 per litre, depending on the location of their stations. Checks by NAN revealed that NNPC retail stations in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) had already adjusted their pumps to reflect the new price of N897 per litre, while independent marketers were selling between N930 and N1,200 per litre.
Emonefe warned that the fuel hike would further worsen the cost of living in the country if not urgently addressed. He stated that NANS may mobilize students for nationwide protests if the government fails to act. He also demanded that the government explain the reason behind the recent price hike and suggested a return to the subsidy regime if the situation cannot be improved.
