Transforming Futures: Nigeria to Launch Africa's First Entrepreneurship University in Bama

Nigeria is set to establish Africa’s first Entrepreneurship University in Bama, Borno State, following strong support from education stakeholders during a Senate public hearing. Senator Kaka Shehu Lawan, the bill’s sponsor, emphasized that the university aims to equip youth with entrepreneurial skills, addressing Nigeria’s rising unemployment rate, which reached 5.3% in early 2024.

With youth unemployment at a staggering 53%, the university will focus on agriculture and entrepreneurship, preparing students to transform opportunities into business ventures. Senator Muntari Mohammed Dandutse noted that there was unanimous support for the bill, and local leaders, including the Shehu of Bama, expressed their commitment to fostering a conducive environment for the university’s success. The Borno State government also pledged its support for the initiative.
