Peter Obi Donates N60 Million to Anambra Educational Institutions, Reaffirms Commitment to Youth Empowerment and National Development

Former Anambra State Governor and 2023 Labour Party Presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has made a significant donation of N60 million to two educational institutions in Anambra State: Peter University and the School of Nursing, Adazi-Nnukwu.

The donation includes N50 million for Peter University and N10 million for the School of Nursing. This contribution reflects Obi’s ongoing commitment to bolstering educational institutions across the state. At the donation event held at Peter University in Achina/Onneh, Obi emphasized the transformative role of education in national development, urging students to strive for academic excellence. He described investment in education as an investment in the future, calling it the “most impactful tool for societal progress.”

Speaking to students at the College of Nursing Sciences in Adazi-Nnukwu, Obi reaffirmed his dedication to supporting institutions that build skills, professionalism, and character. Addressing the issue of skilled Nigerian nurses emigrating for better opportunities, he encouraged those who choose to go abroad to consider returning once the nation is reformed, assuring them that he and others are working toward this vision. He also expressed hope that those who remain would use their skills to help develop Nigeria.

In response to Obi’s support, Bishop Paulinus Ezeokafor, a key proprietor of both the university and the nursing college (alongside Peter Cardinal Okpaleke), thanked Obi for his unwavering dedication to education. Calling him the “Father of Education” in Anambra, he praised Obi’s role in transforming the educational landscape of the state, particularly through his initiative to return schools to the Church, which led to improved infrastructure and academic standards. Ezeokafor noted, “What’s remarkable about Obi is that he continues to support institutions even after leaving office.”

The Vice-Chancellor of Peter University, Rev. Fr. Prof. Emmanuel Umezinwa, also expressed gratitude, highlighting Obi’s support for the university’s entrepreneurship center, which provides students with practical skills for self-reliance and innovation. Obi was accompanied by his former Chief of Staff, Prof. Chinyere Stella Okunna, underscoring their shared commitment to advancing education and societal progress in Anambra State.
