Students Abduction: Governor Masari Shuts Down Boarding Schools in Katsina State.

Following the abduction of 333 students of  Government Science Secondary School, by gunmen in Kankara Local Government Area, the Governor of Katsina State, Aminu Masari, has ordered the immediate closure of all boarding secondary schools in the state.

The governor gave the directives when he visited kankara local government area, where the unfortunate incident took place.

Masari said, “The situation goes beyond one’s thinking. It’s a sad moment for Katsina, I am assuring parents of the missing students we will do anything humanly possible to rescue the children, it’s our responsibility to protect lives and properties.

“As I am speaking to you now, the soldiers are in the bush engaging the militants in a firefight, I plead with you to exercise patience, we will rescue the children and I also ordered for the closure of all schools to save the children,” the governor said.

The governor further reiterated the commitment of both governments at federal and state levels in curbing the growing rate of banditry and other criminal activities in the state, while also saying, the government is in firm control of the situation, and will be decisive in engaging with the bandits.

The report gathered indicated that gunmen had earlier attacked Kankara town, injuring many residents, but were later repelled by the security forces.

Residents also confirmed, that the bandits in large numbers, on motorbikes, invaded the school’s premises, just before midnight on Friday,  shooting sporadically as resident scamper for safety.

Recall that, on the 14th of April, 2014, about 276 girls were abducted from their school in the Chibok area of  Borno state, 57 girls escaped in the months following the abduction, while 21 and 82 girls were freed in 2016 and 2017 respectively.
