Sultan of Sokoto Urges NYSC Corps Members to Uphold National Unity

During an interactive session with the 2024 Batch A stream 2 corps members deployed to Sokoto State, the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, emphasized the crucial role of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in fostering national unity.
The Sultan commended the NYSC for its efforts in promoting nation-building and fostering unity among Nigerians. He urged stakeholders to sustain their support for the scheme, highlighting its significant contributions to national integration.
Addressing the corps members, the Sultan urged them to actively participate in initiatives aimed at nation-building and to promote cultural and religious harmony across the country.
Furthermore, he called on the government and affluent individuals to provide financial assistance to graduates to establish businesses after their service year, citing the pressing need for job creation amid high unemployment rates.
The Sultan stressed the importance of leveraging the NYSC platform to enhance cultural understanding and foster harmonious relationships at all levels of society. He assured the corps members of their safety throughout their service period, reaffirming the commitment of local authorities to their well-being.
Additionally, the Sultan emphasized the need for corps members to adhere to the provisions of the NYSC law and the laws of the communities where they are posted. He underscored the inclusive nature of Sokoto State, where all residents are considered indigenes, irrespective of their origin.
In his remarks, the NYSC Coordinator in Sokoto State, Alhaji Usman Yakubu-Yaro, expressed gratitude to the Sultan for his continuous support of the scheme. He lauded the Sultan’s efforts in recognizing the achievements of corps members and promoting their welfare.
The visit to the palace by the corps members aimed to seek blessings and guidance from the Sultan, further cementing the bond between the NYSC and the traditional institution.
As the nation strives for peace, stability, and unity, the Sultan urged corps members to pray for the well-being of the country and actively engage in activities that promote understanding and mutual coexistence among its diverse populace.
