TETFund Hosts Research and Exhibition Fair to Promote Nigerian Innovation

The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) is set to hold a five-day Research and Exhibition Fair starting Sunday, November 17, at Eagles Square, Abuja.

Sonny Echono, the Fund’s Executive Secretary, has called on Nigerian inventors to showcase their talents at the event, which aims to attract support from TETFund and potential investors. Echono emphasized that participation is open to all innovators, not just those affiliated with TETFund-sponsored institutions.

“This event is not limited to our beneficiary institutions. We encourage research institutes, private inventors, and digital creators to participate. If you’ve developed anything that can create jobs, improve lives, or advance products and services, come and showcase it,” Echono said during a press briefing.

He noted that the fair seeks to harness innovation and creativity for national development, emphasizing the need to turn Nigeria’s tertiary institutions into hubs of invention and self-reliance. Despite Nigeria’s position as one of Africa’s leading producers of PhD graduates, the country still lags in innovation and industrialization. Echono urged researchers to focus on projects that address local needs and contribute to the economy.

With Nigeria’s vast regional and sub-regional market potential, the fair aims to reduce dependence on imports, strengthen the Naira, and create employment opportunities, especially for the youth.

The event will bring together inventors, researchers, and creators to showcase groundbreaking projects and marketable ideas that could drive local production and economic growth.
