UNN Restricts Social Activities Beyond 6 p.m. After Deadly Incident

The management of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), has announced a restriction on social activities within the institution, following a tragic incident that occurred on 12 September.

In a statement signed by the Acting Public Relations Officer, Inya Egwu, the university directed that all social gatherings on campus must now end by 6:00p.m and be held strictly under the supervision of the University Security Unit.

The decision comes after a businessman, Chiebonam Nweze, popularly known as Power-Autos, was stabbed to death during a bonfire night organized by the Department of Archaeology and Heritage Studies. Reports indicate that the event was hijacked by miscreants from a neighboring community, leading to violence.

“The university management has directed that henceforth, all such activities must be held in the daytime and closely monitored by security. Social events of any kind will no longer be permitted on our campuses beyond 6:00 p.m.,” the statement read.

The university described the incident as unfortunate and reassured the public of its commitment to providing a safe and secure environment for students, staff, and visitors. It also pledged to put in place stronger measures to prevent a recurrence.
