UNZIK’s VC Rejects Tinubu’s Removal
UNIZIK Vice-Chancellor Denies Sack, Calls Out Federal Ministry Over Alleged Irregularities
The Federal Ministry of Education has accused the Governing Council of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) of appointing an unqualified Vice-Chancellor, a move it says has led to unrest and disorder at the institution. The allegations were outlined in a letter signed by Boriowo Folasade, the Ministry’s Director of Press and Public Relations, which also claimed the university had violated federal regulations.
However, the embattled Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Odoh, has denied receiving any formal communication about his alleged removal. Speaking on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Thursday, Prof. Odoh dismissed reports of his dismissal as baseless, insisting he only learned of the claims through media outlets.
“There has been no official correspondence from the Ministry of Education or the National Universities Commission (NUC) regarding my removal,” he said. “The council that appointed me has not been called to account, and no investigation or inquiry has been conducted.”
The Vice-Chancellor emphasized that his appointment followed due process and that no crime had been committed to warrant his removal.
“I was not appointed through a press release, and I cannot be removed through one. After this interview, I will proceed to my office because I have not been informed of any wrongdoing,” Prof. Odoh declared.
The situation has sparked uncertainty and tension within the institution, as stakeholders await further clarification from the Ministry and the university’s Governing Council.
