The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has set the cut-off marks for the 2024/2025 admissions cycle at 100 for universities, polytechnics, and Colleges of Education (COEs).
JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, emphasized that no institution should admit candidates who score below these cut-off marks. He also stated that institutions must strictly adhere to their respective admission requirements as stipulated in the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS).
Presenting the 2023 admission statistics, Prof. Oloyede highlighted that out of 5,261 candidates who scored 300 and above in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), 1,273 were not admitted. Additionally, of the 41,466 candidates who scored 250 and above, 15,399 were not admitted, and of the 296,909 candidates who scored 200 and above, 138,754 were not admitted.
He noted that for Medicine and Surgery, and Pharmacy, 66,386 admissions were granted out of 331,208 applications. For sciences, 265,634 quotas were given, 300,267 applications were received, and 138,795 students were admitted. In arts and humanities, 54,755 quotas were given, 89,634 applications were received, and 40,298 admissions were granted. In the education category, 129,275 quotas were given, 114,751 applications were received, and 75,937 students were admitted.
Prof. Oloyede also listed the top candidates for the 2023 UTME, including Oluwasijibomi Olowu from Ondo State, David Alayande from Oyo State, and Ehijele Orukpe from Edo State, who all scored 367. Other top scorers include Jewel Emmanuel and Joshua Essiet from Akwa Ibom, and Valerie Ezenwoko from Abia State.
Several universities have set their minimum admissible scores higher than the JAMB cut-off. Pan-Atlantic University, Ibeju-Lekki, Covenant University, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, and the University of Lagos require a minimum score of 200. Afe Babalola University, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Nigerian Police Academy, Wudil, and Lagos State University of Science and Technology, Ikorodu, require a minimum score of 180.
Prof. Oloyede clarified that these minimum scores were determined by the institutions themselves, not JAMB. He also mentioned that the fee for the Post-UTME has been set at N2,000.
