Zamfara Governor Awards Full Scholarships to 30 Gifted Students for Federal Academy
Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has awarded scholarships to 30 gifted students from the state to study at the Federal Government Academy in Suleja. The announcement was made during a reception at the Government House, where the governor hosted the students and leaders of the Muhammad Danbaba Centre for Women and Youth Development.
A statement from the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Idris, highlighted the centre’s crucial role in helping Zamfara State become the top-performing Northern state in the National Examination Council entrance exams for gifted students. Notably, many of the highest-performing students came from public schools.
Governor Lawal praised the students and their families for their outstanding achievements, attributing their success to his administration’s focus on improving education. “Your remarkable performance shows that our declaration of an emergency in the education sector was worthwhile,” he stated.
He further explained that Zamfara had previously ranked low in education nationwide, prompting the declaration of an education emergency last year. Efforts have since been made to renovate over 300 schools and improve teacher training across all 14 local government areas.
Drawing from his personal experience in public education, Lawal emphasized his commitment to reviving public schools and announced full scholarships for the 30 gifted students, covering all expenses. “This is just the beginning; we plan to continue this support for all our students,” he added.
Earlier, Sarkin Malami, Chairman of the Muhammad Danbaba Centre, discussed the centre’s activities and offered suggestions for the government to enhance its operations.
