Oyo State Government Allocates N250 Million School Grant for Secondary Education Enhancement
The Oyo State Post Primary Schools Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) Chairman, Pastor Akinade Alamu, has announced the disbursement of a N250 million school grant by the state government to facilitate the operations of secondary schools in the state.
During a two-day training workshop organized for secondary school principals across four zones in Ibadan, Pastor Alamu revealed that the grant, which is the balance of the third term of the previous academic session and the full payment for the first term, has been deposited in the bank for distribution to all principals.
The training, themed “Strategic Leadership for School Transformation and Outstanding Performance,” marked the sixth in a series held across various locations in the state. It aimed to enhance the leadership skills of school principals.
Acknowledging the state government’s commitment to quality education, Pastor Alamu emphasized the need for judicious use of the grant to achieve its intended purpose, which includes conducting terminal examinations, procuring teaching aids, managing minor repairs, and covering security expenses in schools.
He also highlighted the importance of continuous training and retraining for teachers, an initiative supported by the governor through yearly allocations. Additionally, he urged teachers to ensure a smooth conduct of the ongoing West African Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and to discourage examination malpractice among students.
In his closing remarks, Pastor Alamu disclosed the governor’s approval for the full integration of seconded teachers and plans to recruit more teachers in the state. He expressed gratitude to Governor Seyi Makinde for his dedication to education and called for continued support from secondary school principals to achieve the state’s educational goals
