Abia Governor Scraps Controversial N15,000 Student Pandemic Fee

The Governor of Abia State, Okezie Ikpeazu, has scrapped the controversial N15,000, Pandemic Prevention fee imposed on students by the management of Abia State University.

Governor Ikpeazu gave the order as a result of the widespread criticism that followed the imposition of the fee.

The report gathered indicated that the Governor gave the order during a town hall meeting with students and management of the school following public condemnation.

He further announced that his government would pay each student N30,000 to support them and their parents in light of the challenges caused by the global pandemic.

Recall that the management of the Abia State University, in a memo by the registrar, Acho Elendu, directed its students to pay controversial pandemic prevention fee upon resumption for the first semester of the 2019/2020 academic session.
