Post-UTME Confusion: UNIBEN Server Collapse,As Candidates Fate ‘Hangs in the Air

The candidates who participated in the post-UTME of the University of Benin, on Tuesday, are now faced with uncertainties as to the servers of the institution collapse on Wednesday.

A Short Messaging Service, (SMS), was sent out on Wednesday to all affected candidates, directing them to return to the university for another test.

The SMS read: “If you know anyone that wrote post UTME exam today 8th December 2020 @ict hall UGBOWO, tell the person to come back from any state or city he or she is. UNIBEN server failed for applicants that wrote 9 am & 10.30 am. Authority has tried their best to call some students but their phone off. Tell ur love ones…”

Meanwhile, the University of Benin is in total darkness, as the main source of electricity supply to the institution has been cut off.

UNIBEN in a swift response, issued out a statement on Wednesday, endorsed by the spokesperson of the school, Dr. Benedicta Ehanire, it stated that the power outage was a result of the crisis rocking the neighboring community of Ihovbor, where angry youths cut off the source of electricity.

The statement read: “This is to inform members of the University of Benin Community that the present power outage on Campus is as a result of Community unrest at Ihovbor, the main source of power supply to the University. (The Community youths have forced power outage due to a Community clash). It is hoped that normalcy would be restored soonest. Inconveniences are regretted.”

Recall that the UNIBEN post-UTME screening was postponed to December 2, 2020, at designated centers within the Ogbowo community.
