Abia State Government Approves September 28 for School Resumption

 The Abia State Government has announced that Primary and Secondary schools in the state will on Monday, September 28, 2020, be reopen to conclude the third term of 2019/2020 academic session.

The  statement, which was signed, by the State Commissioner for Information; John Okiyi Kalu, after the State Executive Council Meeting, on Thursday, held at the Government House Umuahia revealed that the examination will begin from Monday, 5th October to Friday 16th October, 2020.

The statement noted that the examination will be use to assess pupils/students based on the tutorial from first and second term, and also the radio and Television classroom programme.

The Government further added, that the first term of 2020/2021 for Primary and Secondary schools in the state will commence on 26th October, 2020, because teachers will have to take a one week break, to enable them mark and compute promotional examination results.

It also stated that the term will be concluded on the 23rd of December, 2020, while confirming that Dr K C K Nwangwa, Commissioner for Education, will publish other details related to school resumption, protocols to ensure the protection of school children from COVID-19 infections, approved schools fees to be charged by private schools, amongst other guidelines.

The statement read in parts, “the executive Council approved the resumption of Tertiary institutions in the State based on the time table and protocols submitted to the state government, as will be announced by the management of each school.”

The Fedral Government had ask States, to begin preparation for the reopening of schools for the first time since March 2020, when schools across the country were shut down as a precautionary measure to curtail the spread of the COVID-19 Pandemic.
