Abia State University Gets New Vice-Chancellor

The Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, has announced the appointment of Prof. Onyemachi Ogbulu, as the new Vice-Chancellor of Abia State University.

The appointment took effect from December 1, 2020.

In a statement, by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Onyebuchi Ememanka, it stated that the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the governing council, Senator Adolphus Wabara gave the names of the three successful nominees including the current Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Onyemachi Ogbulu, a  Professor of History and International Relations at the  Imo State University, Prof. Martins  Nwankwo, and a two-time Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration of the University, Prof. Iheanyichukwu Elekwa.

Wabara explained that the tenure of the former Vice-Chancellor, Prof Uche Ikonne, expired on November 30, 2020, adding that the extant laws provided that the Joint Council and Senate Selection Board screen and submit candidates which would be ratified by the University Governing Council and forwarded to the Governor.

He praised the Governor for the bailout of N400million to the University which had been judiciously utilized.

He said, “His benevolence disposition to the University which had taken the institution to higher heights has led to the improvement in the ranking of the University.”

The outgoing Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Ikonne also appreciated Ikpeazu for his consistent support to the University.

The appointment of Professor Ogbulu takes effect from December 1, 2020.
