UNILAG Senate Elects New Acting Vice-Chancellor

The Senate of the University of Lagos has elected Prof. Folashade Ogunsola as the acting Vice-Chancellor of the University.

A total of 167 professors attended the Senate meeting and participated in the election that saw prof.Ogunsola polled 135 votes, to defeat her opponent and a deputy vice-chancellor in charge of management services, Prof. Ben Oghojafor who scored 31 votes, with one vote declared void.

Prof. Ogunsola with this appointment becomes the first woman in the history of the 58-year old ivory institution to be appointed as a Vice-Chancellor.

She was also the first woman of the institution to be the Provost College of Medicine.

The newly appointed acting VC is a Professor of Medical Microbiology and first child of Nigeria’s first professor of Geography, Akin Mabogunje.

EDUCARE NEWS had earlier reported that the UNILAG Senate will meet today to appoint an acting Vice-Chancellor as instructed by President Muhammadu Buhari.

The President also set up a seven member visitation panel to unravel the cause of the imbroglio rocking the university.

Ahead of the panel’s inauguration, the senate was mandated “to immediately convene to nominate an acting Vice-Chancellor amongst its members for confirmation by the Governing Council.
