NCDC Confirms 138 Corp members Test positive for COVID-19

A total of  138 members of the National Youth Service  Corps (NYSC) was confirmed by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), to have tested positive for the COVID-19 Pandemic.

The Director-General, NCDC, Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu confirmed this on Monday at the Presidential Tax Force briefing on COVID-19 in Abuja.

Ihekweazu stated that none of the Corp members who tested positive were allowed into the camps, while saying that 34,785 corps members and members of the camp communities have been tested, with 138 turning positive, representing 0.4 percent prevalence.

Ihekweazu said: “It means one out of 200 people,” he explained. The NCDC boss said that those who tested positive were either managed at home or in a treatment center, depending on if they had symptoms and what state they were in. With talks between striking university teachers and the Federal  Government progressed getting more positive, he said that the next challenge would be how to work with education stakeholders to ensure the safe reopening of universities. “Universities are slightly riskier and present unique challenges, but we are confident that we can address this as we have done in other sectors like aviation.”

Recall that the Federal Government had announced that the NYSC camps across the country will reopen on November 10, subject to strict compliance to COVID-19 Protocols, with the NCDC disclosing that Corp members will be tested with one of the new Antigen based test.
