NYSC Camp to Reopen Soon-FG

The Federal Government has given the go ahead for the reopening of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camps across the country.

The NYSC was granted approval to begin preparations for the restart of the mobilization of Corp members for orientation camps, six months after it was shut down by the government as part of measures to curtail the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.

The National Coordinator of the Presidential Tax Force on COVID-19, Dr. Sani Aliyu, made this disclosure in Abuja, during the daily briefing on Thursday, September 3, 2020.

Sani stated that the NYSC authorities should consolidate on laid down safety protocols and reopen orientation camps immediately tertiary institutions in the country reopen.

He said: “We are in the process of developing strict guidelines to ensure there is no outbreak of COVID-19 when this process starts.”

Brigadier General, Shuaibu Ibrahim, who is the Director-General of NYSC, had said that measures have been put in place to ensure safe and efficient conduct of its operations, once the Federal Government gives the approval for the reopening of its camps.

It would be recalled that the NYSC management in March, shut down all the orientation camp nationwide as a precautionary measure to prevent the spread of the coronavirus disease.

The NYSC headquarters in Abuja, issued out the directive, which disrupted the orientation camp of the 2020 Batch A stream 1, across the 37 centres in the country.
