The Students of Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED) stormed the Lagos State Court of Arbitration Panel sitting at Lekki to demand justice for their colleague,  Pelumi Onifade.

The protest by the students was carried out at the Court of Arbitration, the venue of the Judicial Panel of Inquiry on SARS abuses.

Pelumi was reportedly hit by a bullet from policemen to a charged scene and later died in the custody of the Lagos State Task Force.

Abdulazeez Soneye, who is the TASUED Students’ Union President, disclosed that Onifade was last seen with officers of the Task Force on October 24.

“He worked with Gboah TV. He went to cover an incident at the Ministry of Agriculture Abattoir, Agege, Lagos. He was found dead under mysterious circumstances a few days after his arrest, “he said.

Soneye further added that due to the ASUU strike, Pelumi worked with the online media outfit.

He also berates the police for taking Pelumi away despite his ID and a reflector jacket which indicated that he was a pressman.

The protesters demanded that the Task Force Head, CSP Saheed Egbeyemi, and the Commissioner of police, Hakeem Odumosu, give an account of what happened.

Meanwhile, Egbeyemi told reporters that Pelumi’s case has been handed over to the police for further investigation.

Recall that Pelumi was part of those media personnel arrested by the police for recording the police brutality during the End SARS protest.
