WASSCE Student Test Positive to COVID-19 in Akwa-Ibom
The Akwa-Ibom State Governor, Emmanuel Udom has revealed that a candidate participating in the West African Examination Council Examination has tested to positive to coronavirus.
The Governor, who was speaking during a press briefing in the State’s capital Uyo, stated that the affected student is asymptomatic.
Udom further said that everything will be put in place to ensure the student does not miss out on anything from the class.
“We have tested over 100 students and it is only one young man that tested positive to the virus in the state.
“We did what we have to do medically and I want to believe that by now, the young man should be okay.
“All of them are in excellent health condition because we have put everything in place to ensure the students are quite safe.
“I have also directed all my special Assistants to go to all the schools and monitor the level of compliance with the safety protocols and give us feedback in case of any emergency.
“Students observed all COVID-19 Protocols before starting their examination.
“We want to make sure our students are safe even while writing the examination, he assured.
He also hinted that the Government has provided over 100,000 face masks and sanitisers to schools were examinations are been held in the state.
“Based on the report I have, I think the students are doing well; it is left for them to reciprocate by giving us excellent WAEC result,” the Governor said.
It would be recalled that last week, seven students of Government Girls Secondary School, Doma, Gombe State tested positive to the coronavirus disease, while in Kwara State, a 16 year old female writting WASSCE was also infected with the virus.
