Bowen Varsity Gives Over 100 Workers The Sack
There is palpitation at the Bowen University, Iwo, 0sun State, with report claiming that over 100 workers have been given the disengagement letter via mail yesterday.
An insider of the institution said the sack may be connected to the COVID-19 Pandemic situation, which has created economic crisis in the institution, hence, the sack of the workers.
A worker in the university, who pleaded anonymity, confirmed the sack of some workers, and narrated how the situation has caused panic among workers.
“Over 100 of us are affected and we may resort to violence because the reason for the sack was not genuine. The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Joshua Ogunwole, was alleged to have recently bought a vehicle worth over N42million despite the economic situation. So you can see that it is caused by wickedness and insensitivity.”
In a related development, the university’s PRO, Toba Adaramola confirmed the sack of workers by the institution.
In a swift reaction, he said “Technology can take care of the duties of most workers that were sacked, so it is a way of sustaining the university so that it can maintain it status. There is no protest in the school.”
The Vice-Chancellor during the donation of food items to the people of Iwo and Oluponna town in Osun State had urged Nigeria Government, institution, as well as the private sector to start preparing for the after effect of COVID-19 on the economy.
