End SARS Protest Forces NECO to Postpone Exam

The National Examination Council (NECO) has said that paper 1 Computer Studies Practicals originally scheduled to take place on Monday 19 October 2020, has been shifted to November 16, 2020.

NECOS’s Head, Information and Public Relations Division, Azeez Sani made this known in a statement released to news men.

Sani explained that the paper was rescheduled, due to the End SARS protest currently going on across major cities in Nigeria, blocking highways and obstructing vehicular movement, noting that the entrance gate into Benin City, the Edo State capital has been barricaded by protesters.

He also added that the NECO delivery truch, left it take-off point two days earlier to deliver examination materials to some states but has been trapped in the ‘blockage’.

He said: “This is to inform the general public and especially candidates that the National Examination Council (NECO) has been constrained to rescheduled the paper 1 of Computer Studies Practical earlier scheduled to take place on Monday,19 October 2020, 10 am to 1 pm.

“The examination of this paper will now hold on Monday, 16 November 2020, 10 am to 1 pm.

“This unforeseen incident has been caused by the End SARS protest that blocked the free movement of transport at the city entrance gate of Benin.

“The Council wishes to assure all stakeholders and the general public that the affected examination materials  have been retrieved intact and are in the custody of NECO’s vault.

“While regretting any inconveniences this rescheduling may cause our esteemed stakeholders, the Council has however taken this decision in order to maintain the integrity and security of its examinations procedures for seam conduct of the Council examination.”

Recall that the National Examination Council, (NECO) on Tuesday, August 11 had released the date for the conduct of its 2020 examination for Senior Secondary School (SS3).

The NECO board, also announced that the NECO SSCE will take place on Monday 5 October 2020 and Wednesday 18 November 2020.
