There is No Change in WASSCE Time Table-WAEC

The West African Examination Council (WAEC) has denied effecting any change in the time table date of the 2020 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE)

The exam body made this announcement on Wednesday, August 19, via its official twitter handle in response to an online user who had shared a picture of a letter from the WAEC office with changes to a subject time table.

However, in a swift response, WAEC responded saying; the changes do not apply to candidates in Nigeria.

Since the outbreak of the coronavirus Pandemic, which disrupted the time table for exams and academic calendar of schools, WAEC has been embroiled in controversy and conundrum.

The examination which was supposed to commence on April 6 to June 5, had to be suspended due to the COVID-19 Pandemic which forced the Federal Government to shut down schools across the country.

After a long term deliberation between the Ministry of Education and other stake-holders in the education sector, a consensus was reached for WASSCE to begin for Senior Secondary School 3 (SSS3) students on August 17.

However, just before the commencement of the exam, on Sunday (August 16) there were wide spread rumour , that leaked answers to some subjects are being shared in some Nigerian WhatsApp groups.

The Head of Public Affairs (WAEC)  Demanus Ojijeogu denied the claim, saying the answers in circulation which were believed to be leaked from the Mathematics subject written on Monday, August 17 were fake.

But in a twist of event, the Head of National office (HNO), Patrick Areghan, confirmed that some its supervisors actually leaked exam questions before WASSCE started on August 17, he also added that the culpable supervisors have been arrested.

It remain to be seen what more will come out from the 2020 WASSCE examination as the exam body strives to execute a smooth conduct of the exams.
